Coaching Philosophy

While I don’t suppose my approach is any better than many of my trusted colleagues, my nearly 25 years of coaching has reinforced the fact that each individual golfer needs their own approach and their own systematic steps of instruction to improve to the level they are truly capable of.

The partnership I foster with my students builds on a shared desire to improve their respective games, and to have these players take true ownership of their progress through a complete understanding of their swing. This personal approach is enhanced when players have a much deeper understanding of how the golf swing truly works.

I like to believe my instruction steers clear of two common pitfalls in today’s teaching: First, there is the “one size fits all” approach, where just because a technique works well for one it should be adopted by all.  Another common error is when incorrect emphasis is placed while addressing  a specific swing fault without necessarily looking to see what might be some root causes. Players will spend countless hours tweaking various elements of their swings without looking at some components which very well are the real concerns.

My coaching mentor, a PGA Master coach, who would often say to me that many golfers don't know what they are doing.  Of course, what he meant by that is that what many golfers think they are doing in their swing is not an actual representation of what is really going on.  As is said, feel is not always real- and quite simply, my personalized instruction looks to join these two elements.
